Ars: China Labor Watch (CLW) accuses Pegatron of numerous ethical and legal violations, including “dispatch labor abuse, hiring discrimination, women’s rights violations, underage labor, contract violations, insufficient worker training, excessive working hours, insufficient wages, poor working conditions, poor living conditions, difficulty in taking leave, labor health and safety concerns, ineffective grievance channels, abuse by management, and environmental pollution.”
“At 10:30 a.m., I told my team leader that I wanted to go to the restroom and got his approval. I felt lucky about this after my experience yesterday in which I had been yelled at by the team leader when I asked to go to the restroom. He said, “No one else wants to go. Only you are such a pain!” Since workers in my department must always sit while working, this five-minute break is precious. A worker can stretch for a minute and have some water, since they are not allowed to bring water to their work post. One worker can apply to go to the restroom once or twice per day, but whether or not they get approval depends almost entirely on their team leader’s arbitrary judgment. And not every team leader is agreeable. According to factory regulations, except for the two meal breaks, one at noon and one in the evening, there are no mandatory breaks for workers to go to the restroom or have water.”
In the words of the great Bob Dylan, “how does it feel?” How does it feel to know that your desire to buy an iPhone means that slave kids in China aren’t allowed bathroom breaks? Apple makes a 70% profit on iPhones folks, according to some reports. And yet their workers can’t take bathroom breaks.
If you buy Apple products, chances are you voted for Obama. That’s my stereotype of you. You’re either a liberal or you’re technologically uninformed. If you’re an Obama superlib, you probably think your shit don’t stink, but let me tell you, it stinks pretty fucking bad. You think Apple products are somehow “progressive” or “ahead of the curve” because they look sexy and shiny, and you see them as “alternative” to traditional products. You think by voting for Obama (who himself is a Mac user), you’re doing the world a favor but really you’re contributing to the problem. Your 99% demagoguery is just bullshit. You’re giving money to one of the world’s most evil corporations and making the ultra wealthy into the ultra ultra wealthy. Steve Jobs is rotting in hell. And the head bosses at Apple right now are snorting coke from between a hooker’s tits while laying on a pile of YOUR money. Or your parents’ money, if you’re an Occupy fuck.
In short, if you buy Apple products, you support slavery.
