NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Hostess Brands — the maker of such iconic baked goods as Twinkies, Devil Dogs and Wonder Bread — announced Friday that it is asking a federal bankruptcy court for permission to close its operations, blaming a strike by bakers protesting a new contract imposed on them.
I wasn’t really upset about this until I found out that Hostess also owns Drake’s, the company that makes Yodels. I love Yodels. Then I read on, and found out that this was caused by a workers’ union strike. You can probably guess that I hate unions. What unions don’t understand is that the point of a business is not to give people jobs. It’s to make money. Otherwise why would anybody start one? It’s to make money to pay the bills. It’s to serve customers, not fucking employees. These goddamn union workers don’t know that. They think money grows on trees and these companies have some moral obligation to hire people and pay them high wages. You don’t like it? Don’t fucking work there. And now you won’t because the company is gone.
Too all those around the world who will be missing Twinkies, Yodels, Donettes, Ho Hos, and the little coffee cakes, blame workers’ unions for this one. Now you have to buy Entenmann’s instead.
