Ars Technica: When Microsoft first revealed its Surface tablet back in June, many in the rumor mill were expecting the company to reveal a gaming-focused “Xbox Surface,” based on leaked documents pointing to such a tablet. Those rumors have resurfaced again, with The Verge reporting today that Microsoft is working on a final implementation of a 7-inch tablet tuned for gaming.
Because, you know, what American kids really need is to be able to play their video games on the school bus on the way to school, then during lunch and recess, then again on the bus ride home before sitting down to their stationary console. Why waste all that time just, like, talking to other kids on the bus.
No but seriously, the PS Vita was a good idea. Take your PS3 games with you on the go. But it just isn’t working. It’s not an attractive solution and the Sony ecosystem is an expensive one if you aren’t already partially in it. The initial cost of a PS3 and a PS Vita is very high. If Microsoft makes an XBox 720 and pairs it with the “XBox Surface” or whatever they call it, it may mean cloud gaming will finally go mainstream.
