CNN: Apple executives are set to defend the company’s tax practices and call for corporate tax reform on Capitol Hill Tuesday amid harsh criticism following a Senate investigation.
A report released Monday by Senators John McCain, R-Arizona, and Carl Levin, D-Michigan, charged that Apple “has used a complex web of offshore entities — including three foreign subsidiaries the company claims are not tax resident in any nation — to avoid paying billions of dollars in U.S. income taxes.”
See, I’m sort of torn here. On the one hand, I don’t believe in taxes. On the other hand, Apple is an evil fucking corporation. The real story is how Apple users are mostly liberals and hipsters, when Apple is one of the most evil, capitalist corporations in existence. It’s a company that exploits the labors of little slave kids making a dollar a week assembling our cell phones, incurring a minor cost and making a 70% profit or more on each iPhone or iPod device sold. It’s a company that sells computers for twice what an identical PC would go for, and dupes its customers into thinking it’s actually superior hardware. It’s one of the biggest, more profitable corporations in the world, and libs love it.
So it’s of course OK, in liberal minds, for Apple to use dozens of offshore accounts, holding hundreds of billions of dollars according to other reports, in order to avoid paying taxes on it. Even fucking U2, the Irish band led by planet earth’s leading asshole, Bono, moved their corporation to Denmark to avoid paying the high Irish taxes. Ah, yeah, how does that feel to all you bleeding hearts and libs? Even fucking Bono uses foreign accounts to avoid paying your ridiculous taxes. Yet somehow it’s fucking evil if Romney does the same thing.
I think what Apple is doing by having offshore accounts is fine because I believe in economic freedom. But I think it’s fucked that so many damned libs love Steve Jobs and Apple because it seems hip and modern when in reality all Apple is is a corporation with a masterful marketing department.
