Source: Earlier this year, President Obama signed a set of executive orders targeting gun violence in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings. Among them was an edict commanding the CDC to do a comprehensive survey of studies regarding guns and gun violence in the United States.
The CDC’s numbers basically back every pro-gun rights argument made over the course of the last year. The CDC report finds that “Defensive use of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence.” There’s as much as a 10 to 1 ratio of defensive firearm use vs. offensive use, though admittedly the 3 million figure is probably a bit high.
So basically Barack Obama ordered the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to do a study on the effects of gun ownership in the US. Of course, he expected the CDC to come out with a report that said guns were a leading cause of death, crime, etc, and once Americans saw this report, we would all regret having guns, and possibly ask to get them banned. Well, that was the plan. But it backfired.
The report the CDC came out with basically backed every single argument that gun owners use. The vast majority of firearm deaths are suicides, which reinforces the idea that the country has a mental health problem. In addition, the study said that defensive use of guns is far more prevalent than offensive use. In fact, guns are used in defense as much as ten times more often, which reinforced the idea that a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun. And a bad guy without a gun too.
In addition, the study also found no significant connection between video game violence and actual gun violence. It also found that accidental firearm deaths and injuries is declining in frequency, and that the majority of crimes committed with guns involve handguns, not long guns (rifles or shotguns). In fact, the amount of crimes involving rifles was tiny, and that includes ALL rifles, not just “assault” rifles. The amount of crimes committed with assault rifles, according to other studies, is less than 1%. So this whole assault rifle ban is literally complete democrat demagoguery. And the only ones who took the bait are the uninformed and the bleeding hearts.
So you probably won’t hear much about this report from mainstream media, because the mainstream media leans liberal, so MSNBC and HuffPo, and probably NPR won’t report it. Besides, there is a ton of stuff going on right now that will be a distraction. The gay marriage news is good enough news that everybody is going to forget everything else. But even if they don’t there’s the Zimmerman trial, the NSA leaks, Syria, the coal workers and the pipeline vs. the environmentalists, the Texas abortion bill, Affirmative Action, the immigration bill with amnesty thing, the Aaron Hernandez murder arrest, just a whole fuckload of news going on. Not all the news is Obama-related, but there is a ton of Obama bad news floating around right now that people will forget guns. All that empty rhetoric he had, honestly I’m disappointed. I didn’t vote for him but I didn’t want to see him fail. Looks like that Clint Eastwood and the empty chair bit turned out to be spot on, didn’t it?
And I’ve stopped capitalizing democrat and dem. Political parties are evil. The other one is too.
PS I’m going on hiatus from political blogs for a while with the exception of course of the occasional meme.
